More than 125 years of history

1889

Birth of Irizar

Irizar was created in 1889 and it was its founder, a Gipuzkoan entrepreneur named José Antonio Irizar, who decided to take the company from manufacturing iron fittings for carriages into the world of passenger transport. At the end of the 19th century, the family business sealed its perfectionist stamp and focused on manufacturing elegant carriages and stagecoaches, an activity that it carried out for almost three decades.

1928

First coach bodywork

The twenties saw the gradual replacement of animal traction by the decisive development of motor vehicles. It was in this context of transformation in the coachbuilding world that Irizar manufactured its first coach with mechanical traction, a 22-seater vehicle with coachwork on a chassis purchased by a customer, Julián Apaolaza, in France. Its curious crocodile bonnet made it one of the most popular vehicles of the time.
