IRIZAR began operating on the South African market at the end of 2002, thanks to a project carried out with a local partner. During this period, more than 200 vehicles were supplied from IRIZAR BRAZIL, vehicles which are currently operating in both South Africa itself and neighbouring countries such as Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique. Two years later, in September 2004, the IRIZAR SOUTHERN AFRICA project (belonging entirely to the IRIZAR GROUP) was set up with the aim of assembling PKD units. Currently, complete units are sent from Brazil and the PKD units are assembled in Johannesburg, using locally-manufactured European chassis. The work is carried out in a series of rented premises by a specially trained local workforce. The next step, planned for 2005, is to purchase a plot of land and build a complete plant for both PKD assembly and after-sales service. |
