The ideas behind Irizars unique management model are expressed in the book Symphony or Jazz? by Luxio Ugarte.
The book was presented to over 500 people on 1 December this year, at the Kursaal Conference Centre in San Sebastián, during a ceremony attended by the President of the Basque Government, Juan José Ibarretxe, the Regional Minister for Employment, Joseba Azkarraga, the Gipuzkoa Provincial President, José Juan González de Txabarri and various representatives from both the business world and IRIZAR itself.
IRIZARs management model has won many quality awards, including the EFQM award and the Prince Philip prize.
Written as an interview, the book explains Koldo Saratxagas ideas regarding the Irizar model and charts his personal and professional career. It is targeted at company managers and young students, and aims to offer them an alternative vision of the way in which to establish and design the relationship between people within an organisation
Symphony or Jazz? talks about the dichotomy between companies managed hierarchically in the form of a symphony orchestra, and those that operate like a jazz band, in which all members are able to play various instruments and are free to improvise.
