First European company in its sector to do so

Friday, January 22nd 1999

IRIZAR has recently been awarded the ISO 14001 Certificate for Environmental Management by Aenor. It is the first European company in the coach bodywork building sector to do so, just as it was the first company to obtain ISO 9001 in 1994.

The past January 22, the Basque Minister for Housing and the Environment, Mr Patxi Ormazabal, and AENOR's delegate for the north of Spain, Mr Orbea, presented the Certificate to the IRIZAR management at the Co-operative's plant in Ormaiztegi.

This certification means the accreditation of the principles and system put into practice by IRIZAR to protect the environment in all its spheres of activity. In the medium term, it is IRIZAR's aim to build the most ecological coach in the sector.

Aware of the importance of making business development compatible with protection of the environment, the PRINCIPLES which govern IRIZAR's actions in environmental matters are as follows:

  • To foster, among its personnel and collaborators, respect for, and commitment to this environmental policy.
  • To keep its social environment informed.
  • To take note of any public or private initiatives set in motion to achieve increased environmental protection.
  • To communicate this Environmental Policy to all its personnel.

The TARGETS to be achieved on the basis of these principles are:

  • A 30% reduction over three years of water residue containing sodium hydroxide.
  • A 50% reduction of solvent residue over five years.
  • A 30% reduction of paint sludge over five years.
